Martial Arts Training
Martial arts refer to various types of self
defense that rely on the use of the body over use of weapons
based on skills originating in Japan, China and Korea. Some of
the more popular martial arts forms
are Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Judo and XMA.
Martial arts are often characterized by their
general fighting styles (kicking, striking, grappling and
throwing) and their use of weapons. Karate for instance employs
numerous striking techniques that include kicks, throws, dodges
and holds. Tae Kwon Do on the other hand uses kicking, punching
and assorted evasive techniques.
While the martial arts were originally used as
a form of self-defense, nowadays many of the various martial
arts forms have also been modified into various sports forms
that can commonly be seen at competitions and exhibitions.
Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts Training
Tae Kwon Do is a very popular form of martial
arts. It is well known for its use of kicking techniques, which
distinguish it from many other forms of martial arts such as
Karate and Judo.
Tae Kwon Do was originally developed in Korea
almost 2,000 years ago and was strongly influenced
by Japanese
Karate during the occupation of Korea by Japan. In some circles
Tae Kwon Do is
actually known as Korean Karate.
Tae Kwon Do as a form of self defense relies
more on stopping attacks and less on starting them as compared
to other forms of martial arts. As a technique Tae Kwon Do
teaches a person how to use their own body in ways that prevent
an outsider from harming them.

Karate
Karate is a form of martial arts that consists
of self defense practices coupled with a unique
philosophy of
life that encourages continual self improvement. While Karate enrourages fighting
without the use of weapons, it also
advocates a peaceful existence.
Traditional Karate was originally developed in
the islands of Okinawa. When Okinawa was invaded
by the samurai
clans of Japan's larger islands, islanders developed Karate as a
means for defending themselves.
A number of Karate styles exist these days;
however, all are derived in one way or another from their
origins in Okinawa. They are collectively thought of as Japanese
martial arts.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a form of Japanese
martial art that employs a system of martial arts moves to
overcome an attacker. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu allows a defender to
use an attacker's strength, size and momentum to their
advantage.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu focuses upon close
fighting, and its primary application as a martial art is when
someone is attacked on the street. It relies strongly on choke
holds and submissive holds that
enable a person not only to
defend themselves but also others who may be under attack.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is very popular with
military and law enforcement, and many countries throughout
the
world use it as an unarmed combat technique. Part of its
popularity draws from the fact that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches
a person the most important and effective ways of defending
themselves.
Judo
Judo is a very popular martial arts form and is based on the
movements of Ju Jitsu. Judo is also recognized as an Olympic
sport.
Judo consists primarily of throws and grappling, which in
turn includes joint locks and chokes. Judo is often compared to
wrestling, but it also has its own unique combat forms. Judo as
a martial arts form also emphasizes mental, moral and character
development as much as it does physical training.
Various forms of Judo cater to different interests. Some
people train for competition by sparring in order to enter the
many tournaments available while others train strictly for self
defense.
XMA (Extreme Martial Arts)
XMA (Extreme Martial Arts) is a martial arts type that
is actually a combination of all martial art forms blended
together with high-flying acrobatics and gymnastics.
